Quote from lafayette independent radio on 08/26/08 at 14:28:09:When on-camera meteorologists around here are playing the "non-committal/don't know where it's going" card, that means Gustav could be dispensing disasterous Pravda up our geographical gut. They haven't said much about it going anywhere else.
Having taken several weather courses (as an undergrad) and shared classroom time with half of WAFB's weather staff, there is a damn good reason they're playing the "non-committal card" right now.
BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW.
What if that High pressure over Florida moves (anywhere)? What if that low pressure trough keeps sagging south to the coast?
Forecasting the weather has yet to become an exact science. The further out (chronologically) one goes, the greater the mathmatical there is because you don't know. They're not trying predict human behavior here, they're trying predict the movement of air masses.
These models for Gustov have gone in 48 hrs from pointing towards Talahassee to New Orleans to now Houston. Who knows what it'll be later this morning or this evening. Maybe Mexico, maybe back towards Mobile.
