Dr. Schmitt, a psychologist at Bradley University in Illinois and the director of the International Sexuality Description Project, suggests that as wealthy modern societies level external barriers between women and men, some ancient internal differences are being revived. "Ancient internal differences?" Like, what? Uteruses? Call it a hunch, but it could just be that as women make more gains, and the higher status of men becomes inevitably more threatened in society, it's an obvious DUH that the two would find themselves having less in common ... whereas, in conservative societies, men and women feel the same way about everything, because women aren't really supposed to feel a certain way about anything in the first place. I don't understand exactly how comparing the speeds of competitive distance runners on college teams disproves sociocultural theory about gender. Methinks there are a LOT of gaps in that conclusion not being accounted for. I would HATE to see what kind of conclusions these guys would draw with a study about sports, competitiveness, and, say, race as opposed to gender. In summation: Evolutionary psychology is still bullshit.
